2. How can I know my level in French?

If you are not a total beginner, you need to take a placement test. This test takes about 45 minutes, is free of charge and with no obligation.

3. When is it possible to sit for a placement test?

You can sit for a placement test during our open days which occur prior to each new session. The dates of the open days are available on our website homepage. If you cannot come during the open days, you can contact us by phone to make an appointment: 070 362 15 23.

4. I followed a course at the Alliance Française de La Haye more than a year ago / I followed a course at another Alliance Française. Should I take a new placement test?

Yes. In both cases you will need to take a new placement test.

5. How much does a group course cost?

A course of general French lasts either 39 hours and costs around 345 € or 42 hours and costs around 370 € (excluding administration fee and books). If you are interested in following a thematic course or more specific courses, you can find details in our brochure.

6. What are the different methods of payment?

You can pay in cash, by standing order, PIN or bank transfer.

7. Are there courses for any level?

Yes, there are courses for any level, from A1 to C1. All of our courses are based on a communicative approach to the language and follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

8. How long does a course last?

There are 3 sessions per year: from September to December, from January to April and from April to July. Each session lasts 13 or 14 weeks. You can also follow an intensive course during the first 2 weeks of July.

9. How often are the courses?

In general the lessons are once a week (one lesson of 3 hours) or twice a week (2 lessons of 1hr45).

10. How many students per class are there?

Minimum 5 and maximum 14 students per class (maximum 12 in conversation classes).

11. What is the average age of the students?

The majority of our students are between 25 and 35 years old.

12. I don’t speak Dutch, can I follow a course anyway?

Yes. Since our students are international, all our classes are in French, even the courses for beginners.

13. What are the different educational methods used? Where can I find them?

Several methods are used, depending on your course. Those methods are Alter Ego, Latitudes or le Nouvel Edito. Other communication devices are also used by our teachers (e.g. audio, video…). You can buy the books at the reception of the Alliance.

14. Who are the teachers of the Alliance Française de La Haye?

The lessons are given by a team of 10 experienced teachers. Their mother tongue is French and they all have a certification in teaching French as a foreign language.

15. Can I cancel my registration or get a refund?

No. If you cannot be present at the course or if you have missed a lesson, no catch-up or refund will be possible. However, the Alliance Française de La Haye will refund tuition fees when a written cancellation has been received no later than one week prior to the start of the course or when a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.

16. Can I catch up on a lesson?

No, if you have missed a lesson (e.g. through illness or holidays), you will not be able to catch up on the lesson in another group or on another day.

18. Are there French courses for children?

19. What are the office opening hours of the Alliance Française de La Haye?

The Alliance Française de La Haye is open Monday to Thursday from 9am until 8.30pm, on Friday from 9am until 5pm, and on Saturday from 9am until 1pm. Please note that our office is closed between 1pm and 2pm.
