TEF (Test d’Évaluation de Français)
This test was conceived and is administered by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris (CCIP). The TEF is a language placement test for non-native speakers of French who wish to obtain a simple, effective and precise evaluation of their general language skills for professional or personal reasons. The certificate of achievement is valid for one year. The overall objective of the TEF is to measure the level of the candidates' knowledge, linguistic and communications skills in French:
- It assesses comprehension and expression skills in French.
- It gives a quantitative and qualitative measure of the level of candidate's linguistic and communication skills.
- It offers a detailed and personalized analysis of results.
Structure of the TEF
3 compulsory modules (2hr10)
- Reading comprehension (60min)
- Listening comprehension (40min)
- Vocabulary and grammar (30min)
2 optional modules (1hr35)
- Written expression (1hr00)
- Oral expression (35min)
Costs:
€ 90 (compulsory modules)
€ 40 per optional module

How is the TEF graded?
The TEF assesses candidates from an elementary to an advanced level.

Registering and getting ready
No prior diploma is required for the TEF. The best way to get ready is to follow one of our general French course.

TEFaQ
The Ministry of Immigration and the Cultural Communities of Québec requires the TEFaQ, which is an adaptation of the TEF, for a visa application to Quebec. For this test, candidates are tested on their oral understanding and expression only. A certificate of results is issued and valid for one year in case of visa application.

2 mandatory sections (total: 1hr15)
- Listening comprehension (40 minutes)
- Oral expression (35 minutes)

DAEFLE (Diplôme d’Aptitude à l’Enseignement du Français Langue Etrangère)
DAEFLE is a professional diploma provided by the Alliance Française de Paris and the CNED (Centre National d'Enseignement à Distance). This diploma is reserved for teachers and those who intend to become teachers.
