Dear all,
As you already know, in response to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Dutch government declared a state of emergency on March 16th, deciding to close schools, restaurants and ban all cultural events. This measure has now been maintained until at least April 28th.
The health and safety of our students and staff remains our main concern. It is in this spirit that the Board of Directors of the Alliance Française de La Haye decided on March 16th that:
– the reception of the public in the premises of the Alliance Française de la Haye, Emmapark 6, 2595ET Den Haag, will be suspended until further notice,
– in response to this case of force majeure, everything would be put in place to ensure continuity of service by offering online:
• all the courses of session ending April 25, 2020,
• all the annual children’s courses given in the premises of the Alliance Française de la Haye,
• almost all private lessons in consultation with our students,
• most training programmes provided in the Hague Institutions.
This way, we have ensured continuity in our teaching for more than 80% of our training courses. For the courses which could not be maintained for the moment, on a case-by-case basis, we will organise ourselves to allow each of them to be caught up in the best possible conditions.
Concerning the exams, and unless otherwise indicated by the Dutch government, we are maintaining the sessions initially planned in May for the “Diplômes d’Etude de la Langue Française (DELF) Tout Public (TP”) and the “DELF Junior” and “DELF Primaire”. We also hope to be able to offer the “Tests de Connaissance du Français (TCF)” and the “Tests d’Evaluation de Français (TEF)” again very soon.

A remote online reception with a phone and email response from Monday to Friday from 09:00 to 13:00 is also maintained.

Concerning the current session running until April 25th, 2020:
The health, safety and well-being of our students and staff is our priority, but it is also important to us that you continue to enjoy and learn the French language. With several years of proven experience in online teaching at numerous institutions, the Alliance française de la Haye, by ensuring the continuity of its service, has met the requirements expected of its students in this context of force majeure, particularly for the courses of session 3 (March / April).
If this online solution may seem intimidating for some of you at this stage, we think it is accessible to all audiences and perhaps also synonymous with great conviviality and a certain comfort (a course from your sofa!). You can also be assured that your teacher, who has been trained in-house to develop his or her teaching approach in this context, and our entire team will be there to help you appreciate this new and exciting way of taking lessons!
However, for greater clarity and continuity in your learning, this online transition of our courses respects our division of levels and the volume of teaching per level remains the same.

Concerning the next session (from May 4th, 2020) :
At this stage, and in the context of the latest announcements by the Dutch government, the probability of schools reopening at the beginning of May at the earliest and a resumption of cultural events on June 1st leads us to envisage a scenario with the online teaching at least during the month of May. This to guarantee the respect of a precautionary principle with regards to our students but also our administrative team. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you in our premises for the second part of the session on June 1st.
In this context, in order to be able to adapt to your constraints, we guarantee you:

– Smaller groups: maximum 8 people to be even more suitable for online teaching
– New course formats to stick to your realities in this context: 2 courses of 1h30 during the time of the online courses, and for some of them, a return to 3 hours in the classroom
– An intensive session with 24 hours of classes in one month
– Entirely online training: from the “Open Days” to the final assessment and placement tests: you can do it all from home!
– New features on the virtual classroom, including the ability to create sub-groups and more stable video access with non-invasive software for your privacy.

At this stage, and unless otherwise indicated by the Dutch government in the coming weeks, and in agreement with our supervisory authorities, we have decided not to reopen our premises before May for the exams, guaranteeing that the conditions of social distancing specific to the taking of a test will be respected.

What are the most frequently asked questions to date?

Can I visit your premises at Emmapark? No, our premises are currently closed to the public until further notice.

How can I contact you? Until our premises reopen, we will maintain a half-time reception from Monday to Friday from 9am to 1pm either by telephone on 070 362 15 23 or by email on We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we try to answer you as soon as possible.

Will the courses of session 4 starting at the beginning of May 2020 take place? Yes, we are pleased to announce that our full course offer will be available for this May/June session, with the addition of new formats to suit your current situation. Thus, we plan to start the courses online in May before continuing with the face-to-face courses in June, if the situation allows it. We offer the same content as the previous sessions but in an online “classroom” rather than a physical location.

What are the dates of your May session? The May session will run from May 4th to June 27th, 2020. All courses are open for registration during the week of April 6th. You can get more information and register on our website.

I’m interested in registering for a course in the next session but I’m not quite sure about the online format. We understand that online courses may be new to many of you, so we have decided to offer you the opportunity to try out our virtual classroom during the online open days that will take place on April 22nd and 29th from 4pm to 6pm. Please note that these classes are for adults only.

I’m not sure of my level. Since the beginning of the year, we have been offering a placement test totally online, accessible by clicking on the following link This test consists of two parts: you answer questions allowing us to know your level in writing and we will contact you for the oral part.

If the above information does not answer your question, please send us an email at or call us on 070 362 15 23 from Monday to Friday between 09am and 1pm.

This unprecedented situation is of course constraining on several levels, but we think that it can be the time to allow you to perfect your knowledges but also to reflect, escape and dream… in French!

Don’t forget that the Alliance Française de La Haye is an independent non-profit organization. The best way to support us, as well as your teachers, is to re-register for this session 4 which will start in May 2020.

Thank you very much for your continued support,
