Conditions of registration and payment

Article 1 | Acceptance of these general conditions

These general sales conditions govern all the relationships between the Alliance Française de La Haye and its clients/students with respect to enrolments, except in the case of express, written derogation. By placing an order and/or enrolling, the client and/or the student accepts these general conditions. These conditions shall apply exclusively from the enrolment of the client and/or the student.

Article 2 | Age limits

The student must be 18 years old minimum to be enrolled for training with the Alliance Française de La Haye. However, a person of 18 years old or less may be enrolled for training provided that a parent or guardian (the person signing this form) is aware that:

  • In case of an integration issue or any problem related to the class and on the teacher’s advice, we reserve the right to cancel this registration. We will then refund the prorated balance of the fees received.
  • The standard class in which the teenager is registered is targeted for adults, in an environment designed for adults. We therefore waive all responsibility and liability other than that applying to adult students and irrevocably undertake to accept these general conditions.
Article 3 | Enrolment conditions and formalities

All enrolments are personal and non-transferable.

By validating his/her enrolment, the client confirms his/her irrevocable undertaking to follow, or to have a student follow, the training, subject to the right of cancellation or deferral set out in Article 5.

For standard lessons, the possession of the learning materials is essential.

Article 4 | Refusal of enrolment

The Alliance Française de La Haye reserves the right to refuse enrolment on a training course, as well as any renewal, particularly in the case of inappropriate behavior by the student in compliance with the“internal rules guidelines”.

Article 5 | Right to withdraw – Deferral of an enrolment and reimbursement

Any withdrawal from enrolment for a training course that has been validly carried out, will lead to the refund of training fees within thirty working days of receipt of the properly formulated request, however this is subject to the deduction of an amount of 50 (fifty) EUR for administrative costs.

Furthermore, the client and/or the student have the right to defer the training for which they are validly enrolled or to have the fees for this refunded within 6 months commencing with the date of request for deferral. The deferral is a deferral of the session in accordance with the timetable established by the Alliance Française de La Haye.

The deferral or refund of training is authorized subject to, and on penalty of nullity, the request for deferral or refund being sent either (i) in writing to the Alliance Française de La Haye.

Article 6 | Pricing and methods of payment

Training costs are subject to pricing set out in all the communications media of the Alliance Française de La Haye (website, brochures, online purchasing platform, etc.). The amounts indicated are all-inclusive, and included:

  • The course fees
  • A fixed amount covering the administration fee for one whole year.
  • The study and activity books used during the course. The books are nonrefundable.

The total amount due for training (namely training costs and costs of learning materials) must be paidbefore the start of training, except for those who pay by invoice). Bank transfer fees are at the client’sexpense. Payment in installments are possible under special conditions: in 2 times for adults and 2-3 times for children. In this case, the administration of the AFLH prepares the calendar of payments for students.

The Alliance Française de La Haye reserves the right to refuse access to any person not have fulfilled all the enrolment formalities set out in Article 3 above.

Article 7 | Renewal of enrolment

Any renewal of enrolment will only be valid if all the requirements set out in Article 3 above are fulfilled before the start of training.

Article 8 | Payment delays

Any amount unpaid 3 weeks after enrollment will be increased by a one-off amount of 50 (fifty) EUR.

Article 9 | Cancellation of training by the Alliance Française de La Haye

The Alliance Française de La Haye reserves the right to cancel a training course, even if this has been subject to enrolments, if it believes that the training cannot take place in optimum conditions of safety, comfort, management and/or learning, and in the event of force majeure or exceptional circumstances, or if the number of participants registered falls below 5.

If a training course is cancelled, each client/student who is validly enrolled will be personally advised by email and the possibility of requesting his/her enrolment on another training course will be offered, as far as the Alliance Française de La Haye is able to do so, or to be refunded his/her enrolment for the training.

The client/student must advise of his/her decision to take part in another training course or to be refunded within 3 months of receipt of the email informing him/her of the cancellation of training. Beyond this time all training costs shall be the definitive property of the Alliance Française de La Haye.

In the event that a training course has to be cancelled by the Alliance Française de La Haye once it has started, part way through the session and the client or student opts for the cancellation of his/her enrolment, this cancellation will only be effective for the future and the refund of enrolment fees and training costs will be on a prorated basis applied to lessons which have not been provided – whether or not the student has attended lessons that have been given.

Article 10 | Issue of certificates / proof of attendance

The Alliance Française de La Haye issues, on the client’s and/or student’s request, a certificate or enrolment and/or attendance.

The certificate of enrolment is only issued once the total payment of the enrolments fees and training costs has been made.

Enrolment and/or attendance certificates will no longer be issued after a period of 6 months has elapsed after the end of the training in question.

Article 11 | Assessment of training – Transition to a higher level

Transition to a higher level is conditional on the student passing a mandatory end of level assessment, administered at the end of the Alliance Française de La Haye levels.

Information relating to the conditions for sitting this assessment will be displayed in Alliance Française de La Haye premises. In the event of significant impossibility, re-sits are possible under specific conditions.

The Alliance Française de La Haye test of level is valid for one year from the date of presentation of thistest. Beyond this time, a new placement test will be required to assess the student’s level.

Article 12 | Identification of teachers and premises

The Alliance Française de La Haye will have sole discretion to designate the teacher who will provide lessons and to nominate the premises in which lessons will take place. There is no right to teaching from a specific teacher, nor right to benefit from a specific premise.

The Alliance Française de La Haye cannot guarantee the same teacher for the whole of a training course or session.

As far as possible, in the event of the absence of a teacher, the Alliance Française de La Haye undertakes to guarantee continuity of service. If circumstances do not allow the replacement of the absent teacher, the lessons will be postponed to a later date.

The Alliance Française de La Haye cannot accept any responsibility in the event of cancellation or time changes for lessons resulting from the behavior of a student or any third party.

Article 13 | Portrait right

During the courses, we may take pictures of students (adults/children), which can be used for publicity purposes on our website and/or in our brochures. By signing this form, you agree with the publication of these pictures. May you have any objections, please inform us in writing before the start of the course.

Article 14 | Property rights

The copyright and ownership of the teaching material rests with the author. The material may not be reproduced, stored in a digital database or made public, except for personal use by the student currently enrolled in a training program.

Article 15 | No liability for Alliance Française de La Haye in the event of failure

The Alliance Française de La Haye cannot accept any responsibility if the student’s learning goals or the candidate’s certification goals are not achieved. The Alliance Française de La Haye is only bound by anyobligation of means in this respect. The student undertakes to follow training assiduously and with application.

Article 16 | Interpretation in conformity with the Dutch version of these general conditions

If an ambiguity or contradiction should arise between the various translations of these general conditions, the terminology used in the Dutch version shall take precedence.

Article 17 | Complaints management and follow-up

Any complaint must be formalized and sent to the director via the e-mail address info@aflahaye.nl. Students will be informed of the procedure to be followed in the event of a complaint. The director or his representative will acknowledge reception of the complaint within a maximum of 24 hours and will reply within a maximum of 3 working days. If the handling of a complaint requires more time, he will inform the sender in writing. The complaint will always be treated confidentially and will be, as well as the manner of handling, registered and stored for 1 year.

If one cannot reach an agreement internally between the parties involved, an independent external mediator bureau can Resolute-Mediation in Leiden be called upon. Resolute-Mediation functions as an independent third party and can be contacted at the following email address info@resolute-mediation.nl.

Article 18 | Applicable law, competent jurisdictions and language of proceedings in the event of dispute

These general conditions are subject to Dutch law. In the event of a dispute, only jurisdictions sitting in the Dutch language of the judicial district of Den Haag will be competent.

How can I know my level in French?

A.

 If you are not a total beginner, you need to take a placement test. This test takes about 45 minutes, costs 15 euros and is without any obligation. During our Open Days the test is free.

Q?

When is it possible to sit for a placement test?

A.

 You can sit for a placement test during our open days which occur prior to each new session. The dates of the open days are available on our website homepage. If you cannot come during the open days, you can contact us by phone to make an appointment: 070 362 15 23.

I followed a course at the Alliance Française de La Haye more than a year ago / I followed a course at another Alliance Française. Should I take a new placement test?

 Yes. In both cases you will need to take a new placement test.

How much does a group course cost?

A.

 A course of general French lasts 39 hours and costs around €390 (excluding administration fee and books). If you are interested in following a thematic course or more specific courses, you can find the details in our brochure.

What are the different methods of payment?

 You can pay in cash, by PIN or bank transfer.

Are there courses for any level?

A.

 Yes, there are courses for any level, from A1 to C1. All of our courses are based on a communicative approach to the language and follow the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

How long does a course last?

A.

 There are 3 sessions per year: from September to December, from January to April and from April to July. Each session lasts 11 to 13 weeks. You can also follow an intensive course during the first 2 weeks of July.

How often are the courses?

In general the lessons are once a week (one lesson of 3 hours) or twice a week (2 lessons of 1hr30).

How many students per class are there?

Minimum 5 and maximum 14 students per class (maximum 12 in conversation classes).

What is the average age of the students?

A.

 The majority of our students are between 25 and 35 years old.

I don’t speak Dutch, can I follow a course anyway?

A.

Yes. Since our students are international, all our classes are in French, even the courses for beginners.

What are the different educational methods used? Where can I find them?

A.

Several methods are used, depending on your course. Those methods Latitudes or le Nouvel Edito. Other communication devices are also used by our teachers (e.g. audio, video...). You can buy the books at the reception of the Alliance.

Who are the teachers of the Alliance Française de La Haye?

A.

The lessons are given by a team of 12 experienced teachers. Their mother tongue is French and they all have a certification in teaching French as a foreign language.

Can I catch up on a lesson?

A.

No, if you have missed a lesson (e.g. through illness or holidays), you will not be able to catch up on the lesson in another group or on another day.

Can I cancel my registration or get a refund?

A.

No. If you cannot be present at the course or if you have missed a lesson, no catch-up or refund will be possible. However, the Alliance Française de La Haye will refund tuition fees when a written cancellation has been received no later than one week prior to the start of the course or when a class is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment.

What are the office opening hours of the Alliance Française de La Haye?

The Alliance Française de La Haye is open Monday to Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Please note that our office is closed between 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.

I would like to make a complaint. How to do ?

A.

Any claim should be addressed in a detailed letter to the director, Mr. Fabien Pois (info@aflahaye.nl), who undertakes to give the issue its full attention. In the event of litigation, the case will be submitted to the Committee of the Alliance française de La Haye and their decision will be final. The AFLH will strive to respond to your complaint within two weeks. All complaints will be dealt with in a confidential manner. Should your request require more time to deal with, you will be informed in writing as soon as possible. We register and keep records of any complaint for one year.
